What is WordPress Yoast SEO plugin
Yoast SEO plugin (formerly known as WordPress SEO by Yoast), no doubt, is one of the most popular SEO support plugin currently used on WordPress platform. The reason Yoast SEO is due to the outstanding features as well as the SEO results it has brought to many websites. If you know how to take advantage of this plugin, you can easily put your blog to the top of Google easily. The great thing is Yoast SEO completely free.
How to use wordpress yoast SEO plugin
Install the WordPress Yoast SEO plugin
First, you need to install and activate the Yoast SEO plugin (formerly called WordPress SEO by Yoast). The installation is completely the same as installing a regular plugin.
Please temporarily forget its settings, open an article that you posted or create a new article. You will see a Yoast SEO framework below the article editor, which looks like this:
Note: If you do not see this frame, you can click the Screen Options button (on the top right corner of the screen) then click on the Yoast SEO button.
Use Yoast SEO plugin to rank for your keywords
Now, think of the keyword you want to rank for on Google, then think of a title for the article containing that keyword. For example, I want to rank for the keyword “write a SEO friendly article”, I can set the article title as “How to write SEO friendly article with Yoast SEO plugin”. The URL of the article will automatically be created and contain keyword that needs ranking. This title will appear on your blog.
You can edit the permalink by clicking the Edit button. However, permalink also needs to contain keywords that need to be ranked.
Next, take a look at the Yoast SEO framework below the editor. There are 4 things you need to do here:
- Focus Keyword: is the keyword you want to rank for SEO, enter it in this section.
- SEO title: This title will be displayed on the search results of search engines like Google or Bing. You can edit to make it different from the title displayed on the blog / website (step 3) or leave it unchanged.
- But the important thing is that this title must also contain keywords. SEO titles should be between 40 and 70 characters long (including spaces). You can use the bar to measure the number of characters.
- Meta description: a short description for the article and will be displayed on Google search results. This section has a minimum length of 156 characters, a maximum of 300 characters (including spaces) and must contain keywords.
Keywords for SEO must appear at least once in the content of the article, especially in the first paragraph. It need to appear as much as possible, of course too much to the point of stuffing keywords, but it must be completely natural. The best keyword density should be between 0.5% and 1%.
Use the Yoast SEO wordpress plugin to analyze your article
You can scroll down to Analysis to see more things to do to have a standard SEO article:
However, in my opinion, you only need to perform steps 3 and 4 well, in combination with writing content at least 300 characters long (as much as possible) is possible. Get an SEO standard article already.
Keywords that need SEO should also be inserted into the name and alt-text of the image in the article. I often name the cover image (at the top of the article) exactly the same as the permalink, such as “plugin-yoast-seo.jpg”.
After you finish, you can check if the article is SEO friendly by looking at the Publish frame. If it shows Good results along with a greendot, then your article is now ready for Google!
The WordPress Yoast SEO plugin may be updated to a newer version with a different interface. However, you can still apply the rules above to write SEO standards. Just follow all steps in this article and your blog will be SEO friendly and ready for Google ranking.
